The NHL Stanley Cup Finals kick off Wednesday night in Edmonton, as the Western Conference champion Oilers host the East champ Florida Panthers in a rematch of last year’s finals. Game 1 is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET (6 p.m. MT) with TV coverage on TNT and truTV and streaming on-demand.
The Panthers, who beat the Oilers in seven games to win the 2023-’24 Stanley Cup, scrapped their way past the Tampa Bay Lightning in five games in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs, followed by wins over Toronto (7 games) and Carolina (5 games) to book their return trip to the championship finals. Florida has deployed a balanced approach to scoring this postseason, with 10 players accounting for at least 10 points in 17 playoff games. The Panthers are outscoring opponents 66-36 in the playoffs, including a dominant 21-7 margin in the East finals.

Connor McDavid and company are pursuing the franchise’s first Stanley Cup since winning it for the fifth time in seven years in 1989-’90. Edmonton advanced out of the Western Conference with series wins over the LA Kings (6 games), Vegas Golden Knights (5 games) and Dallas Stars (5 games). Twice, the Oilers lost the opening game but closed their deficits with four straight wins. McDavid (26 points) and Leon Draisaiti (25) have been at the center of Edmonton’s attack so far this postseason.
