Hockey season is officially back! Tonight, September 23, 2025, the Edmonton Oilers travel to the Canada Life Centre to take on the Winnipeg Jets in a highly anticipated preseason matchup. Both teams are looking to shake off the rust and get a feel for their new rosters, making this a must-watch for any hockey fan.

Last season, the Oilers had a fantastic run, finishing with a record of 48-29-5 and making it all the way to the Stanley Cup Final. They’ll be looking to build on that success and finally bring the cup back to Edmonton. The Jets, on the other hand, had an incredible regular season, finishing first in the Central Division with a record of 56-22-4. They’ll be looking for a deeper playoff run this year and it all starts tonight.
This is the first of two preseason meetings between these two Canadian rivals, with the second game taking place in Edmonton on Friday, September 26. Expect a hard-fought battle as players on both sides will be looking to impress their coaches and earn a spot on the opening night roster.

This is a tough one to call. The Jets have the home-ice advantage and will be looking to make a statement after a disappointing playoff exit last season. However, the Oilers are coming off a Stanley Cup Final appearance and have the best player in the world in Connor McDavid. I’m predicting a close, hard-fought game with the Oilers winning 4-3 in overtime.
