Playing on the second night of a back-to-back set can be challenging for most NHL teams.
That’s not the case for the Edmonton Oilers recently, who’ve won five of the last six entering Wednesday’s game at the United Center against the Chicago Blackhawks (9:30 p.m. ET, TNT).
Receiving the second-shortest Stanley Cup odds, the Oilers roll into Chicago, boasting the third-best road points percentage (.667). Our Oilers vs. Blackhawks prediction and picks expect Kris Knoblauch’s team to add to Chicago’s United Center misery.
NHL odds via our best NHL betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale.
Sometimes, perfect storms don’t go as forecasted. This could be a potential letdown spot for an Edmonton team overdue for a complacent display. However, I can’t overlook how abysmal the Blackhawks have been.
Plus, the Oilers are 4-2-0 on the second night of back-to-backs in enemy barns, winning four of the last five.
Edmonton played well in St. Louis on Tuesday and overturned a one-goal deficit with 2:14 remaining to prevail in overtime. That’s the Oilers for you.
There’s almost no value in backing the Oilers on the moneyline or 3-way moneyline, so I’m taking a leap of faith, expecting them to win by two or more. While I don’t think it will be a blowout, the Blackhawks have been worse on home ice than someone attempting to ride a unicycle for the first time.
It doesn’t really matter where the Blackhawks have played; such is the ghastly state of things in Chicago. With the second-worst points percentage (.289) since Dec. 21, the Blackhawks have won just four of the last 18 games. Only the bottom-feeding Sharks have an inferior record.
They’re also the second-worst team on home ice in that timeframe, losing eight of the last 11 while allowing a league-worst four goals per game.
Four of those eight defeats were by three goals, and one was by two goals. That’s a 45% loss rate by two or more goals in the last 11 home games, a gruesome look for any NHL outfit.

NHL picks made Wednesday; odds subject to change.
In anticipation of Wednesday’s game, McDavid’s eyes will be about as wide as yours after reading about the Blackhawks’ rancid home form. McDavid has 22 power-play points, tied for the team lead with Leon Draisaitl.
Edmonton has the third-best road power play (29.5%), the effectiveness of which should be amplified by going up against a Chicago penalty kill that is the fifth-worst at home (66.7%) since Dec. 21.
The Oilers captain will look to capitalize on the mismatch. A winning $10 bet will profit $13.
