On the first shift of Monday night’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid was tripped up by Zach Werenski, crashed along the boards and suffered an injury.
The replay shows McDavid going left skate first into the boards for a moment. He bounced up from the injury but left the bench and did not return to the game. TSN’s Ryan Rishaug has now reported that first indications are the injury is nothing too serious.

In the second period intermission, Bob Stauffer of the Oilers said it was a fairly innocuous play. “We don’t know what it is yet… I have no idea what is the prognosis at this stage. I don’t know if anybody does. It’s obviously quite concerning.”
Stauffer concluded: “We have no idea where it’s at right now.”
McDavid will be sent home to Edmonton for evaluation while the rest of the team moves on to play in Nashville, Oilers Kris Knoblauch said.
Here’s the reaction on social media as Edmonton Oilers fans and observers realized something was wrong.

McDavid hasn’t been on the bench for a while. If it’s an equipment issue wouldn’t it have been fixed quickly?

Pretty harmless play where McDavid gets hurt on his first shift. Flexing left leg. Knee, groin. Whatever he is gone after 37 seconds…What I meant was players go down like that all the time after checks including McDavid. It was penalty but it bad luck he jams skate into boards
Oilers fan Karman Gill @Kgill39
No McDavid, terrible goaltending, horrible effort on the PP again and terrible breakout passing so far. What else is going to go wrong?
Oilers broadcaster Bob Stauffer @Bob_Stauffer
Connor McDavid will not return tonight (Lower Body)

Nightmare period for the Oilers. McDavid done for the night and a 3 goal deficit on 6 shots against.
Oilers fan Eric Friesen 🏒 @EricJFriesen
I’m praying it’s nothing serious and we’ll see McDavid back for the next game. It’s extremely frustrating there wasn’t a call on the infraction either.

Ok let’s check out the draft prospects
Dallas Nitz @Nitzy14
He went blade first into the boards on his left leg.
I bet his ankle or his knee got tweaked here.
TSN’s Rishaug
Early word out of Columbus is that it’s nothing too serious with McDavid at this point.
