The Oilers started this series with a 3-0 deficit, as they struggled to find offensive success against the Panthers and their goalkeeper Sergei Bobrovsky. However, Edmonton has won back-to-back games and earned the opportunity to host another playoff game this postseason. If Edmonton is able to win this evening, then game 7 will be played in Florida on Monday.
Edmonton has won the past two games because the team’s offense has finally come alive in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Oilers have scored 13 goals in their two victories, including an 8-1 win during game 4. Edmonton’s Connor McDavid is one of the best hockey players in the world, and he has finished the past two games with three goals and five assists. This dual threat on the offensive end has been difficult for Florida to stop, and McDavid will try to continue his dominance at home during game 6 tonight.
Oilers defender Evan Bouchard has also been imperative to the team’s postseason success this year. He has 26 assists and 32 points in the 2024 NHL playoffs, which are both second-best on the team. With Edmonton firing on all cylinders, Florida will have to play an incredible game of hockey to win the title this evening.
The Panthers have lost all of their momentum in the past couple of games, as they even had to bench Bobrovsky a couple of games ago. Bobrovsky’s woes continued during game 5, as he conceded four goals in the team’s second straight loss. In order for Florida to win tonight, the Panthers must find ways to slow down McDavid and the high-powered Edmonton offense.
It will be imperative for Florida to strike first during game 6 this evening, as both of their losses were due to sluggish starts. The Panthers have fallen behind early during the past two games, and the Edmonton crowd will have a bunch of energy if that trend continues.
