The Los Angeles Kings wetn back-and-forth with the Edmonton Oilers at home, pulling off a 4-3 win in overtime.
It was the visitors who got on the scoreboard first, through Kasperi Kapanen 9:43 into the game. The hosts did not take too long to respond, as Quinton Byfield levelled three minutes later. By the end of the first period, it was 2-1 LA, as Warren Foegele added to the scoring.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins returned the game to parity 3:20 into the second period via a power play, with Viktor Arvidsson giving the lead back to the Oilers with 8:01 left in the period. Just like that, the Kings had to show their mettle once more and try to tie the game up again.
They would do exactly that just two and a half minutes into the third period, as Tanner Jeannot brought the game to 3-3. It stayed like that for the rest of the period, with overtime required to determine a winner.
It did not take long in the extra frame for Byfield to get his second goal of the game and give the Kings the victory.
Los Angeles go fifth in the Western Conference, going level on points with Edmonton following the result.
The Vancouver Canucks and Seattle Kraken also needed overtime to figure out who would come out on top. In the end, the visitors got their 16th win of the year, with the game ending 5-4. It was an incredible comeback that saw them prevail in this game.
Brock Boeser got the game's first goal as Vancouver went in front with four minutes left in the opening period. Matthew Berniers equalised just 78 seconds into the second period, but then the Canucks went on a scoring spree.
First, Conor Garland put his team back in the lead at 8:36 in the second, then Boeser scored his second later on in the period. By the time Jake DeBrusk added his side's fourth goal of the night, it looked like the hosts would cruise to victory. But, the Kraken had other ideas.
Jaden Schwartz scored with 4:45 left in the game to give Seattle hope. Then, in the space of just 22 seconds near the end, Vince Dunn and Jaden Schwartz scored to complete what was a remarkable turnaround from the guests. Just 2:15 into overtime, the comeback was complete. Dunn scored once again, and this time, it meant that the Kraken left Canada with a 5-4 win.
Vancouver stay seventh with the result, while Seattle go seven points back of the Dallas Stars for the final playoff spot in the West.
The Washington Capitals, fueled by the return of their captain Alexander Ovechkin, defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 away.
They fell behind early on to start the game as John Tavares scored 3:14 into the game. Toronto's lead would last 92 seconds, as Andrew Mangiapane tied it up. Jakob Chychrun then put Washington ahead for the first time at the 8:54 mark of the first.
Bobby McMann put the game on even pegging 8:10 into the second period. Once again though, the Capitals responded very quickly, this time through Nic Dowd. His goal came less than two minutes later, giving the Caps back the lead. They would not relinquish their advantage.
Tom Wilson added to the away team's lead with 7:24 left in the game, leaving the Leafs in a precarious position. As they attempted to find a goal to give themselves hope, Ovechkin added a fifth to seal their fate.
The victory allowed Washington to put further separation on the Leafs for second spot in the Eastern Conference, with four points now the difference between the two.
