In 2024, the Toronto Maple Leafs reported the highest franchise value of any team in the National Hockey League (NHL). Following behind was the New York Rangers, with a franchise value of four billion U.S. dollars. Other teams near the top of the ranking included the Montreal Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers.
In the 2024/25 season, the NHL team with the most revenue was the Edmonton Oilers. In total, the Oilers generated over 430 million U.S. dollars in revenue, which was nearly double the amount recorded by the Florida Panthers, who beat the Oilers in both the 2024 and 2025 Stanley Cup Final.
While the NHL’s status as one of the Big Four sports leagues in the United States and Canada is beyond doubt, the other three leagues – the NFL, NBA, and MLB – have pulled ahead financially. In 2025, not a single NHL team ranked in the top 50 for most valuable sports teams globally, with teams from the other three aforementioned leagues taking nearly all the top 20 spots.
