Here’s why I’m backing a New Jersey ML bet below in my Devils Avalanche free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
As the NHL regular season rolls on, the New Jersey Devils hit the road for a marquee matchup at Ball Arena against the Colorado Avalanche. New Jersey enters with an 8-1-0 record, looking every bit like an early Eastern powerhouse. Meanwhile, Colorado sits at 5-2-4 and desperate to rediscover its winning touch on home ice.
At the moment, the Devils lead both the Metropolitan Division and the Eastern Conference. Head coach Sheldon Keefe has this team firing on all cylinders, and their recent win over the Avalanche only added to the statement.
New Jersey’s balanced attack and fast tempo have made them one of the most dangerous squads in the league.
However, the Avalanche, guided by Jared Bednar, remain a Western Conference heavyweight — just one still trying to find its rhythm. Despite being ranked second in the Central, Colorado has dropped several tight games lately, each by a single goal. That includes their last meeting with these very Devils.
Historically, this series has been razor-close. The Avs took the edge last season, but New Jersey flipped the script earlier this year.
With both clubs built for speed and skill, expect another high-octane showdown under the lights at Ball Arena.

Oddsmakers see this one as a coin flip with altitude tax — the Avalanche are -155 favorites, while the Devils sit at +130. The puck line gives New Jersey +1.5 (-195), signaling that bettors expect another tight battle.
So far, New Jersey has rattled off five straight wins, outscoring opponents by nearly two goals per game. Their recent win over Colorado showcased their speed, and victories over San Jose and Minnesota only confirmed they’re the real deal. Momentum clearly favors the road side here.
Conversely, Colorado’s been snakebitten. They’ve dropped four of their last five — all by a single goal — including losses to the Bruins and Hurricanes.
Still, they remain lethal at home, and Ball Arena’s energy could tilt things back their way if they start fast.
To start, the Avalanche haven’t exactly fallen apart — they’ve just been losing tight ones. Each of their last four defeats came by one goal, with their last victory being a 4-1 takedown of Boston. This team is still generating chances, just not finishing them.
Offensively, they’re firing at will, ranking 1st in the NHL in total shots (338). Nathan MacKinnon leads with 14 points (7G, 7A), while Martin Nečas and Artturi Lehkonen have chipped in solid secondary scoring.
There’s no shortage of firepower — they just need more luck on deflections and rebounds.
Defensively, Cale Makar continues to anchor the blue line with 18 blocks, and Colorado ranks 3rd in faceoff wins, proving they can control tempo. Yet giveaways remain a problem, as they sit 18th in that category.
In goal, Scott Wedgewood has been steady with 5 wins and 188 saves in nine starts, but the Avs are still chasing their first shutout.
Meanwhile, the New Jersey Devils are scorching. They’ve strung together five straight wins, including statement victories against Colorado and San Jose.
Their pace, depth, and puck movement have been overwhelming for opponents.
Jack Hughes continues to lead the charge with 12 points (8G, 4A) through nine games. Jesper Bratt isn’t far behind with 11 points, giving New Jersey one of the league’s most productive top lines. With multiple scoring threats clicking, this team looks built to sustain its current run.
Defensively, Simon Nemec has quietly been the glue, tallying 7 assists and leading the team with 17 blocks. Timo Meier’s 16 hits add a physical spark, rounding out the Devils’ versatility.
Between the pipes, Jake Allen has posted 5 wins and 131 saves, while Jacob Markstrom remains a capable No. 2 with two wins of his own.
New Jersey Devils vs. Colorado Avalanche bottom line: The Devils have all the momentum and matchup advantages right now. Unless Colorado cleans up its defensive lapses, New Jersey looks poised to steal another one.
We want to hear from you below! Comments are welcome! Give us your picks for this New Jersey Devils vs. Colorado Avalanche NHL matchup.
Here is my Devils Avalanche free pick. The New Jersey Devils come into this game red-hot, riding a five-game winning streak where four of those victories have been by two or more goals.
Their aggressive forecheck and deep scoring lineup have fueled this surge, and they’ve already shown they can handle Colorado in recent meetings.
Conversely, the Avalanche have been stuck in a rut, dropping four straight games—all by a single goal. Although that shows they’ve been competitive, it also highlights their inability to close out tight contests. Plus, their struggles on the road continue to hurt them against high-energy opponents like New Jersey.
Given the Devils’ momentum and the Avs’ inability to finish games, taking New Jersey on the moneyline at +130 feels like solid value.
All things considered, the Devils are playing fast, confident hockey and have been converting their chances at an elite clip.
If their goaltending holds steady and the power play continues to click, they’re more than capable of extending their streak and cashing as a live underdog tonight in Denver.
