Here’s why I’m backing the OVER to pay out in my Predators Jets free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
As the NHL Regular Season gets rolling, the Nashville Predators visit the Winnipeg Jets at Canada Life Centre. Nashville enters at 2-2-2, while Winnipeg has opened 3-1-0.
The puck drops Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 7:00 PM on ESPN+.
Under Head Coach Andrew Brunette, the Predators have been fighting through early inconsistency. They sit 8th in the West and are still searching for rhythm after a tight one-goal loss to Montreal.
Their defense has been serviceable, yet closing out tense third periods remains the hurdle.
Meanwhile, Winnipeg’s strong start under Scott Arniel has been hard to ignore. The Jets are sitting 3rd in the conference and have looked dangerous, with recent wins over the Flyers and Islanders. With the home crowd behind them, their pace-and-shoot game travels just fine, too.
In 2025 these clubs split four games evenly.
However, Winnipeg quietly went 4-0 against the puck line in that series, which matters for anyone eyeing derivatives.

We want to hear from you below! Comments are welcome! Give us your picks for this Nashville Predators vs. Winnipeg Jets NHL matchup.
Nashville’s form has been mixed with two wins, two losses, and two OT losses. Their latest setback to Montreal again highlighted late-game finishing issues. Conversely, Winnipeg has three wins in its first four, including a tidy 5-2 over Philadelphia.
Head-to-head from last season was dead even on straight results.
Even so, the Jets’ puck line sweep looms as a useful angle if this one tilts special-teams heavy.
Winnipeg has clicked early with three straight victories. They throttled the Flyers and Islanders by matching 5-2 scores, then edged the Kings 3-2. That balance between rush offense and slot protection is a good sign.
Mark Scheifele leads with 5 goals and 8 points through four games. Kyle Connor has 7 points (3G, 4A), while Morgan Barron has chipped in 5 points and some heavy shifts. As a unit, their top six has wasted little time.
Physically, the Jets have brought edge without bleeding penalties. Barron’s 8 hits and Nino Niederreiter’s 9 set a tone, while Connor Hellebuyck has turned away 77 of 86 in three starts.
Eric Comrie added a sharp 33-save win in his lone appearance.
Nashville is still finding its identity and has gone 2-3 across the last five. They handled Ottawa when the forecheck bit, but losses to Montreal and Toronto exposed gaps off the rush. Therefore, tightening neutral-zone layers is priority one.
Roman Josi remains the engine with four points in five games. Erik Haula and Jonathan Marchessault have added four apiece, while Filip Forsberg’s three points understate his chance creation. If they get one more finisher rolling, the top nine looks a lot scarier.
Defensively, the Preds are mid-pack in hits and blocks. Juuse Saros is 2-2 in four starts and generally steady, but rebound control and net-front clears need to sync.
Justus Annunen’s lone outing was rough, so expect Saros’ crease until a back-to-back forces a pivot.
Firstly, Winnipeg’s transition game is the lever. If the Jets are exiting clean and stepping into the Preds’ blue line with numbers, Nashville will be chasing from behind again. Secondly, special teams could be the swing if the whistles come early.
For Nashville to flip this script, they must slow the middle and force Winnipeg into low-danger cycle reps.
If their first pass is crisp and Forsberg’s line draws doubles, they’ll manufacture the looks they’ve been missing late.
Basically, if Nashville wins the neutral zone, this can get coin-flippy fast.
With form, finishing, and goaltending leaning Winnipeg, the obvious path points Jets or nothing. However, totals players might eye game flow: if Nashville’s PK cleans up the slot and Saros tracks through traffic, the Under stays live into the third.
Nashville Predators vs. Winnipeg Jets bottom line: Given current trajectories, Winnipeg’s depth and crease edge give them the higher floor at home.
Here is my Predators Jets free pick. The Winnipeg Jets have been on a heater lately, piling up goals and confidence with each game. Their offense has exploded for five goals in two of their last three outings, showing the chemistry is firing on all cylinders.
Playing at home only amplifies that energy, especially when the crowd gets behind their aggressive forecheck.
Meanwhile, the Nashville Predators are heading in the opposite direction. They’ve struggled to keep the puck out of their own net, allowing at least three goals in three of their last five contests.
That shaky defensive structure could easily be exposed by Winnipeg’s relentless attack and quick puck movement.
Given these trends, it’s hard not to expect another game where the red light gets plenty of action.
Additionally, both teams have seen several recent matchups soar over the total, and the Jets’ home ice advantage often turns games into track meets. Because of that, this matchup feels primed for offense from both sides.
My projection says betting on the Over 5.5 goals looks like a smart and confident play for tonight’s showdown.
