Saros is struggling—he’s dropped back-to-back games, including a 19-save effort in a 3-1 loss to Vancouver. January hasn’t been kind to him (3-4-0, 2.86 GAA, .900 SV%), and he may split starts going forward.
Meanwhile, Luukkonen is heating up! He shut down Boston with 25 saves in a dominant 7-2 win and boasts an 8-4-1 record over his last 13 appearances (.906 SV%). Buffalo sits at the bottom of the East, but to many folks’ surprise they’re putting the puck in the net at a good clip.

The Predators improved to 18-24-7 with a 5-2 win over the Avalanche. Nashville was favored on the puck line and covered with the victory. The total for the game was set at 6.5 goals, and the teams combined for 7, surpassing that mark.
All five of Nashville’s goals came from different players. The Avalanche scored first, but the Predators responded with five straight goals to secure the win.
The Predators’ offense found the net five times in their 5-2 victory over the Avalanche. Two of their goals came on power plays, with Steven Stamkos scoring his second goal of the season and Roman Josi adding his first. Filip Forsberg picked up his 7th goal on an empty net, while Gustav Nyquist, who also scored on an empty net, now has 4 goals this season. Colton Sissons contributed with his first goal of the year.
Nashville took 25 shots on goal and recorded 15 giveaways. The Predators were held scoreless in the first period before Stamkos got them on the board 8:31 into the second period. Gustav Nyquist, who scored an empty-netter, also picked up his 4th assist of the season.
Nashville’s defense gave up the first goal 2:54 into the second period and another late in the third, but the Predators secured a 5-2 victory over the Avalanche. Juuse Saros made 29 saves with a 93.5% save percentage, while the defense added 4 takeaways and 23 hits.
Buffalo dropped to 19-26-5 with a 2-1 loss to the Red Wings. The Sabres took an early lead with a short-handed goal from Alex Tuch, but Detroit responded with two power-play goals in the second period.
The total for the game was set at 6.5 goals, but the teams combined for just 3. As underdogs on the puck line, Buffalo failed to cover. Their record now stands at 19-26-5.
Buffalo’s offense struggled in their 2-1 loss to Detroit, with Alex Tuch scoring the team’s only goal, his 5th of the season. Tuch’s goal came shorthanded at 8:21 in the first period and was unassisted.
The Sabres fired 32 shots on goal but were unable to convert after Tuch’s early tally. They recorded 13 giveaways and failed to score on the power play.
Buffalo’s defense gave up two goals in their last game, both coming in the second period on power plays. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 21 saves with a 91.3% save percentage. The Sabres’ defense also recorded 5 takeaways and 17 hits.

When making a moneyline pick, my choice is the Sabres to come out with a win against the Predators while playing at home. Considering the moneyline odds at +102, I’m placing my bet on the Sabres to win outright.
Our projections have the Sabres pulling out a win as the underdog. But if you’re not as bullish as we are on the Sabres, we’d recommend at least getting a bet down on them to cover the puck line.
With an over/under line sitting at 6 goals, we like this game to stay under that mark and recommend getting a bet down on the UNDER.
