MOORHEAD, M.N. (Valley News Live) – A tragic loss from Moorhead High School and its hockey team as Ethan Monshaugen passed away from a spontaneous aortic dissection. He was only 16 years old.
“I miss everything about Ethan. I miss him every day, and I know these guys do too,” said Cory Monshaugen, Ethan’s father.
Ethan was the team manager of the Moorhead High School hockey team. In the Spuds home opener versus Grand Rapids, the team dedicated their first home game to his life. Some players are contributing this season and beyond to him.
“Just his presence, in the locker room, at practice, at games, kind of just that big smile he had on his face kind of lit up the room,” said Jake Franklin, team manager.
“Just a funny guy, like he always knew how to brighten the mood. And I mean we spent hours together,” said Graden Quade, team manager.
Monshaugen left a positive, lasting impression on the team and the school.
“This game, and this day, and the team doing this is actually really sentimental to me because my last conversation with Ethan was about this hockey season and this hockey team,” said Cory Monshaugen.
His teammates, his family, and others connected to the school are going to remember Ethan for the great person he was.
Ethan would have been a junior this year, and the team says they plan to compete for the state championship in his honor.
