Michigan State Hockey vs. Penn State live updates, score: Highlights – Spartans Wire

Michigan State hockey is hosting Penn State in a battle of top three teams in the country. This is the first of two games this weekend between the Spartans and Nittany Lions.

The Spartans head into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead thanks to a Romani goal. Michigan State was not able to add to its lead on its lone power play of the period, and followed that up with an interference penalty by Cayden Lindstrom for yet another Michigan State penalty in the opening period.
Michigan State holds the shot advantage of 12-7 at the break. Penn State will have one minute left on a power play when the second period starts.
Anthony Romani breaks the shutout with a beautiful wrist shot into the back of the net. Spartans take a 1-0 lead, and only four seconds later Gavin McKenna is called for tripping. Michigan State is on the power play.
Michigan State kills off another Penn State power play, and gets a few shorthanded chances of their own.
Pace has picked up with Michigan State starting to get some good scoring chances but nothing has found the back of the net yet. Penn State still holds the shots advantage at 7-4.
Penn State gets some good scoring opportunities but Michigan State was able to successfully kill off the Nittany Lions’ power play. Still scoreless so far in this one.
Michigan State is going to be shorthanded with Porter Martone called for indirect contact to the head. Two-minute penalty.
Both teams have picked up a pair of shots and solid scoring opportunities but still scoreless so far. The game is already starting to get chippy with a small skirmish following a whistle.
No shots for either team so far into this one. Back and forth play, though, despite any scoring chances early into this game.
