Michigan’s hockey team will be rocking new threads to begin the new year.
On Wednesday night, the ninth-ranked Wolverines unveiled the uniform it will wear for Friday’s outdoor game against No. 13 Ohio State as part of the Big Ten Frozen Confines series at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
With Michigan set to take the ice at the home of the Chicago Cubs, the design of its sweater was inspired by the Cubs’ blue uniforms in the early 1980s.

The Wolverines’ jersey is maize with a blue block M on the upper left chest, just where the “C” sits on the Cubs’ uniform. The Wolverine head logo is featured on the left sleeve, while the team also will be wearing baseball inspired stirrup socks.

Michigan (11-6-1, 5-3 Big Ten) has been off since Dec. 16 and will be facing the Buckeyes (13-4-1, 6-2) for the first time this season. Friday will be the Wolverines’ 10th outdoor game, the most of any college program.
Two have been against OSU, including their last in 2023 – a 4-2 loss in the Faceoff at the Lake in the Cleveland Browns’ home stadium.
