Niagara University, NY – Niagara Men’s Hockey, SkateSkins and Oishei Children’s Hospital have partnered for this Friday’s game against the USNTDP.
Patients from Oishei created original drawings that were used to create a full set of SkateSkins for Niagara players and referees to wear during the Purple Eagles exhibition game against the USNTDP Friday, October 24 at Dwyer Arena.
After the game, all game-worn SkateSkins will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital and its foundation.
Phil Rhodes, Director of Hockey Operations at Niagara, added, “We’re thrilled to welcome members of the Oishei team, patients, and the champion kids who helped bring these skate designs to life. For hockey fans in Western New York, this is a unique opportunity to experience the excitement of college hockey, watch some of the top American prospects for the 2026 NHL Draft, and support the incredible work happening at Oishei Children’s Hospital.”
Every fan in attendance will receive a custom rally towel, presented by Choose Love Wine, Enduraphin, Gallo, Hope Totes, Niagara Barber Co., Niagara Falls Police Club, Spicy Pickle, Spur Vodka, and Vigilink.
“This project is a reminder that hockey has the power to connect people far beyond the rink,” said Matthew Keeler, Founder and Owner of SkateSkins®. “These kids poured their hearts into the artwork, and seeing it come to life on the ice is something special. It’s about giving them a moment to shine and showcasing their creations.”
Merchandise featuring artwork from the paitents will also be available for purchase at the game with all proceeds from merchandise sales going directly to the Children’s Hospital of Buffalo Foundation.
“At Oishei Children’s Hospital, everything we do is centered around our patients and their families,” said Stephen Turkovich, MD, president of Oishei Children’s Hospital. “This partnership with SkateSkins and Niagara University brings joy and creativity to the rink while celebrating the incredible spirit of our kids. Seeing their artwork come to life in such a meaningful way is a reminder of the strength and inspiration they bring to all of us.”
Tickets for the game are available here and at the Dwyer Arena box office. Doors open at 5:00 pm and fans are encouraged to arrive early for the warmups at 5:26 pm to see the custom SkateSkins designs take the ice for the first time.
Patients from Oishei will also be in attendance for a ceremonial puck drop at 6:00 pm.
