It's another goal post for the Maple Leafs. John Tavares' backhand shot hits the post and Linus Ullmark grabs the puck, getting it out of harm's way.
That's two shots for Toronto tonight hitting the post. The Leafs lead by one and are coming on as the period winds down.
P2 7:30 – Maple Leafs 2, Senators 0
After the Leafs fail to clear the zone, the Senators get a Grade A chance thanks to a Shane Pinto shot. Anthony Stolarz falls on his back and the Leafs are able to get the puck out of the crease unscathed.
Big break for Toronto.
P2 8:32 – Maple Leafs 2, Senators 1
End to end action with under 10 to play in the second period. Brady Tkachuk with a big hit on one end of the ice. Then on the other, Mitch Marner does a spin-o-rama that Linus Ullmark denies.
Both teams are battling. Toronto remains up one.
A new chant emerges: "Sens in 7!"

It looked like Brady Tkachuk got speared moments ago, and he found himself face first on the ice. Seconds later, the Senators captain gets up and redirects a point shot past Anthony Stolarz. Once the Senators’ jumbotron showed him, fans waved their rally towels and chanted ‘Brady!’
The Sens have a goal, and life again.

Brady Tkachuk tips the puck in the back of the net off the Thomas Chabot shot from the point. It's now a one goal game.
Ottawa not going away quietly. Another tense game for Toronto.
Anthony Stolarz hasn't had to make a lot of saves so far. But that stopping that shot in tight, and not allowing a rebound, while the Senators were building momentum has unquestionably been his most important. The Leafs were looking tired after a long shift. Stolarz looks to be settled into things in the right way.
P2 15:40 – Maple Leafs 2, Senators 0
This might be Tim Stützle's best game of the series. The puck is finding his stick, showing patience in the attacking zone. Stützle fires a puck that Anthony Stolarz stops.
Still 2-0 Toronto.
New view from 30,000 feet: One team seems to be playing free, without the weight of the world on them and the other is starting to look way too tight. The roles have reversed early in Game 6.
It was Max Pacioretty, elevated to the second line for this game, that forced a Nick Jensen turnover at the offensive blue line just before William Nylander made it 2-0 for Toronto. For Nylander, that's a nice present on his 29th birthday.

William Nylander starts the second period with a bang. William Nylander beats Linus Ullmark to make it a two-goal lead for Toronto.
P2 20:00 – Maple Leafs 1, Senators 0
The second period is underway from Canadian Tire Centre.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are 2-0 when scoring first in this series. That's what makes Auston Matthews' goal massive.
Can the trend continue?
When the Toronto Maple Leafs had a lead in Games 2 and 3, the Ottawa Senators rallied to tie. Toronto ended up winning those games in overtime thanks to goals from Max Domi and Simon Benoit.
But the Leafs can't give the Senators life on the road. Time to put the foot on the gas and end this series tonight.

That’s also Auston Matthews’ first power-play goal in the playoffs since Apr. 24, 2023 in the first round of the Tampa series, ending a 17-game drought.

Auston Matthews used an offspeed shot to fool Linus Ullmark and open the scoring for Toronto. He sent it along the ice from the point to beat the Senators goalie, giving the Leafs their first power-play goal in a possible series-clinching game since 2018. That ended an 0-for-30 run in those situations.
