First place in the Pacific takes on last place in the Metropolitan on Monday night as Capital One Arena hosts the LA Kings and Washington Capitals in the NHL.
The Kings and Capitals haven’t met yet this season, and their last face-off was in March 2025, where the Kings held their home fortress for a 3-0 shutout win.
Los Angeles has been tearing it up in the Pacific Division this season as they lead the way with 24 points, a 10-9 record, and are on a current four-game winning streak.
They continue to shine away, with nine of 12 away wins so far, winning their last four games in opposing territory against the Penguins (3-2), the Canadiens (5-1), the Maple Leafs (4-3 OT), and, most recently, the Senators with a 1-0 result on Saturday.
The Capitals will need a full rally tonight, as they’ve only won one of their last five games and currently reside in the bottom spot of the Metro Division with 18 points and an 8-10 record.
Their last win was 4-1 against the Hurricanes on November 11th and they are on a two-game losing streak following their 3-2 shootout loss to the Devils on Saturday.
While the Capitals take home ice advantage tonight and are marked at -135 on the money line, they’ve only won two of their last five home games.
The Kings are fancied to win on the moneyline at +115 odds, maintaining their consistent away form this season.
The Kings have covered a +1.5 spread in their last four away games in a row, and if you look at the Capitals’ weak performance at home this season, a +1.5 puck line seems very comfortable for LA to cover at -220.
The Kings have 55 goals to their name this season and have netted 15 in their last five games, with four of those matchups ending with at least five goals overall.
Even while the Capitals (51 goals this season) are not performing up to par, they haven’t had a recent game where they failed to score at least twice.
Their last seven consecutive games concluded with five or more goals scored between both sides.
With both teams hungry to score, we should expect an over 5.5 to hit at -105 odds.
The dangerous Kings left-winger Kevin Fiala already has nine goals and five assists under his belt this season.
LA’s top scorer played a part in their victory over Toronto, Montreal, and Pittsburgh with a goal in each game, and is likely to sneak at least one in on Monday at +175 odds.
Off the right wing, Adrian Kempe has been crucial at setting up his teammates with 13 assists and could aid Fiala and other teammates in pursuit of more goals.
Washington left winger Alexander Ovechkin enters the night as the highest probable goalscorer for the Capitals at +175 and he already has five in the bag this season, with two goals and two assists in his last three games.
Tom Wilson (nine goals and eight assists) and Dylan Strome (five goals and 11 assists) are always on deck for the Capitals to earn points as well, with Wilson marked for a goal at +190 and Strome set to score at +260.
