With a mix of experience and size, LA needs to tighten up in their own zone if they want to walk out with two points.
Meanwhile, John Hynes’ Wild enter this one after a chaotic 7-4 loss to Columbus — a game that looked like pond hockey at times. But that came right after a dominant 5-0 shutout of the Blues, proving this team can swing from elite to erratic overnight.
The home crowd should give them a lift as they try to right the ship and establish some consistency early.
Last season, LA took two of three from Minnesota, showing they know how to handle the Wild’s physical game. Yet, it’s still early in the year — and both rosters are trying to find chemistry.

The books have made Minnesota a slight favorite at -126 on the moneyline, while the Kings sit around +106 as the underdog. That price makes sense — home ice in the NHL is always worth a little bump, and the Wild usually come out strong at home early in the season.
Still, with these odds, LA offers some real betting value if they can clean up their defensive lapses.

The Kings’ start has been all over the map. They’ve shown flashes of offense, including a wild 6-5 win over Vegas, but their inability to hold leads is an issue. On the other hand, the Wild have been a roller coaster themselves, alternating between shutdown hockey and total chaos.
It’s hard to trust either side long-term, but that just means we could be in for a fun, unpredictable game here.
Offensively, Minnesota’s looked sharp. Kirill Kaprizov has picked up right where he left off, tallying four points in two games. He’s been dynamic, and his chemistry with Matt Boldy — who also has four points — makes this duo one of the most dangerous in the West.
Defensively, rookie defenseman Zeev Buium has been noticeable early, with a goal, an assist, and three blocked shots. He looks poised well beyond his age. Meanwhile, Joel Eriksson Ek continues to bring grit down the middle with three points and three hits. This team has the offensive juice — now it’s about clamping down when things get wild (pun intended).
Between the pipes, Filip Gustavsson has started both games and looked human — 51 saves and six goals allowed. He’ll need to steady the ship if Minnesota wants to start stacking wins.
Given his track record at home, though, he’s a solid bet to bounce back tonight.
For the Kings, inconsistency has been the story. They’ve dropped three of their last five but managed to sneak out that overtime thriller against Vegas. Offensively, the veteran presence of Kopitar (3 assists) has kept them relevant, while Adrian Kempe and Andrei Kuzmenko are starting to find rhythm with a goal and two helpers each.
Defensively, Drew Doughty’s six blocks lead the team — the guy’s still a warrior out there — and Kempe continues to set the tone physically with 11 hits in three games. But LA’s penalty kill hasn’t been sharp, and their transition defense has been exposed. If they can limit odd-man rushes, they’re live dogs in this one.
In goal, Anton Forsberg owns the lone win with a solid 30-save performance, while Darcy Kuemper has struggled early with two losses despite 43 saves. Hiller might lean toward Forsberg again if he wants the hot hand. Either way, the Kings need more structure in front of whoever’s in net.
Minnesota’s got the star power and home edge, but LA’s underdog price feels a little too generous. If the Kings can stay out of the box and play a disciplined road game, this could swing their way.
Los Angeles Kings vs. Minnesota Wild bottom line: Don’t expect either side to make it look easy.
Here’s my Kings Wild free pick. The Minnesota Wild have been lighting up the scoreboard early this season, and their 7-4 shootout with the Blue Jackets proved they’re comfortable in a run-and-gun style of game.
Likewise, the Los Angeles Kings just wrapped up a 6-5 thriller against the Golden Knights, showing they can go toe-to-toe offensively with anyone in the league.
In fact, both teams have shown they can keep things competitive and exciting until the final horn. The Kings’ recent losses have all been tight one-goal affairs, while the Wild have already notched two one-goal wins — a recipe for back-and-forth hockey where goals come in bunches.
Through their first few games, the Kings have buried 9 goals and the Wild have netted 8, while both defenses have been leaky at times. The Wild have surrendered 12 goals already, and the Kings have allowed 6, numbers that point to plenty of open ice and scoring chances.
That’s why the over 5.5 looks like the smart play — two teams pushing the pace, trading chances, and likely giving us another scoreboard-busting night.
Ultimately, I think you can expect chaos, speed, and a whole lot of rubber flying toward the nets. Both squads can strike quickly, and this matchup has all the makings of a fun, high-scoring battle.
