The Carolina Hurricanes have won four straight as they prepare to face a Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at Lenovo Center (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN+) that has won 10 of the previous 12 games.
The Stanley Cup odds contenders have met twice so far this season, both won by Tampa Bay. However, Tampa Bay didn’t look good in its last two games, forming the bedrock of our Lightning vs. Hurricanes prediction and picks.
Andrei Vasilevskiy is the confirmed starter for the Lightning.
Carolina opened as a -130 to -150 moneyline favorite with the line seeing minimal movement at our best sports betting sites ahead of puck drop tonight. The public is all over the Hurricanes too, with 61% of bettors backing Carolina’s moneyline.
Here are my best Lightning vs. Hurricanes predictions and player props for tonight’s NHL matchup, with my pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale. Be sure to check out the rest of our NHL picks along with our guide on how to bet on the NHL.
As of 9 a.m. ET, the Hurricanes are the -125 favorites to beat the Lightning (+105) in tonight’s NHL matchup from Lenovo Center in Raleigh, N.C. I predict the Hurricanes will beat the Lightning in a game with five or fewer goals.
Here are the latest Lightning vs. Hurricanes odds and betting lines from our best live betting sites.
While on a tear after winning 10 of their last 12 games, the Lightning didn’t play well in the previous two. They escaped against the Buffalo Sabres, winning 6-5 in a wild west shootout despite being outplayed for the lion’s share. They won due to Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s ineptitude between the pipes. The Sabres’ flailing netminder finished the contest with -3.55 goals saved above expected.
That subpar performance caught up with the Lightning against Boston, in which Jon Cooper’s squad laid another rancid pile of doo-doo. I might be slightly bitter after backing them to beat the Bruins. At least I hit the Under in the Lightning’s 4-0 setback.
While they’ve been enjoying a few days to rest and take a step back, I don’t think they’ll be prepared to keep up with the Hurricanes’ frantic pace from the first puck drop. After losing Mikko Rantanen and Martin Necas within six weeks, there’s something for Carolina to prove. It was clear that chemistry took a hit when Rantanen arrived on the scene.
Now that he’s gone, the collective should band together while others like Seth Jarvis and Sebastian Aho step up. They were excellent in Sunday’s 4-2 win over Winnipeg, and I expect that version of the Hurricanes on Tuesday.
I predict the Hurricanes will win 3-2.

Kucherov is an enlarged monster in a diminutive body, and he’s unstoppable against Carolina.
He fired 11 shots on goal in two games against the Hurricanes this season and 16 in five over the last two campaigns. He’s also hit the Over on this prop in six of the previous eight contests. Considering his palpable uptick against Carolina, I’ll take the 54.55% implied probability the -120 odds carry.
Best odds: +200 via FanDuel ($10 to win $20)
I’m doubling up on Kucherov due to his outrageous recent production against Rod Brind’Amour’s team. The 31-year-old has tallied five goals in the previous four games against Carolina.
With 12 goals in 28 career games against Carolina, it’s not like he’s always been prolific against them. However, seven of those 12 occurred in the last seven matchups. Kucherov hasn’t scored in two contests but has lit the lamp 28 times in 60 games.
You can’t find a better price than FanDuel’s +200 at our best sports betting apps.
Best odds: +185 via FanDuel ($10 to win $18.50)
I’m taking a flier on Jarvis to score against Tampa Bay. He’s scored in two straight games while looking excellent in both. He recorded over 30% of the expected goals and a 96 expected goals percentage against Winnipeg, which were both team bests. Jarvis tallied 14% of the team’s expected goals against Boston and a 70.6 expected goals percentage, the latter of which was a team-best.
With Rantanen in Big D, Jarvis must step up his offensive production. Let’s see if he can keep it going against Tampa Bay.
Here are the latest injuries for tonight’s Lightning vs. Hurricanes matchup, which will update in real time. Victor Hedman is suiting up for warm-up, but whether he will play is a game-time decision, on which we’re awaiting confirmation.
