PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 7/6 Providence College men’s ice hockey team fell late to No. 12/13 UMass-Lowell in a 1-0 defeat on Saturday (Jan. 25) at Schneider Arena. Zachary Borgiel finished the night saving 25-of-26 shots, good for a .962 save percentage.

– Neither team broke onto the scoreboard through the first two periods, leaving the score at 0-0 through 40 minutes. The visiting River Hawks outshot Providence 11-2 in the first period while the Friars outshot UMass-Lowell 11-8 in the second period.
– The River Hawks looked to take the lead late in the third on a Dillan Bentley chance up close, but a poke-check from Zachary Borgiel denied the opportunity and kept the score deadlocked at 0-0.
– With just 10 seconds to play in the third period, Lowell’s Pierson Brandon fired an off-angle shot from the face-off dot, beating Borgiel glove-side to secure the 1-0 win for the River Hawks.
– Zachary Borgiel stood tall in the loss, denying 25-of-26 shots on net, good for a .962 save percentage.
– Fourteen Friars landed a shot on net in the loss, headlined by a five-shot effort from Logan Sawyer and three-shot performances from Logan Will and John Mustard.
– With the loss, the Friars were held scoreless at Schneider Arena for the first time since Providence’s 4-0 defeat to Alaska-Anchorage on Jan. 20, 2024.
