Ryan Gilbert is calling for the Kings and Stars to continue being goal-starved, although top-liners like Adrian Kempe and Mikko Rantanen may break through.
NHL
The Los Angeles Kings continue their road trip as they face off against the Dallas Stars on Thursday night.
The Kings broke a four-game losing streak on Tuesday night in St. Louis, downing the Blues 2-1 in overtime. Meanwhile, the Stars have lost three straight after starting the season 3-0-0.
My Kings vs. Stars predictions expect a low-scoring game based on both clubs’ recent offensive woes. Read on for my NHL picks for October 23.

Kings vs Stars Best bet: Under 5.5 (+100)
The Los Angeles Kings and Dallas Stars are both struggling to put anything together offensively in recent games.
Los Angeles has scored 2.57 goals per game this season, the seventh-lowest in the league. That’s buoyed a bit by a 6-5 shootout win in Vegas in its second game of the season.
Dallas also started the season hot with five goals in each of its first three games before putting up a total of five goals in its last three contests, including one in each of the last two.
The Kings are without Anze Kopitar at the moment, and the Stars are still missing Jamie Benn. Dallas forward Matt Duchene has also been in and out of the lineup due to an undisclosed injury.
These are two well-structured teams with a solid goalie matchup between Darcy Kuemper and Jake Oettinger. It should be a low-scoring affair in Dallas.
Adrian Kempe has been the one player consistently contributing offense for the Kings early in the season. He has nine points (six assists) in seven games, including at least one assist in four of his last five contests.
Mikko Rantanen was held off the scoresheet last game to end his five-game point streak to start the season. The power forward has three goals and four assists for seven points in six games this year.
While there won’t be many goals, I’m looking for each top line to pot at least one.
The Kings have hit the Under in 47 of their last 88 games (+4.00 Units / 4% ROI). Find more NHL betting trends for Kings vs. Stars.

Ryan Gilbert brings the passion and pain of being a Philadelphia sports fan. After graduating from Monmouth University with a finance degree, he now uses his statistical background to find inefficiencies in betting markets. With past stops at NHL.com, NBC Sports, and currently at Covers, Ryan’s hot picks blend well with the cold ice of a hockey rink.
