A taxing recent schedule of seven games in 12 days caught up to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, when they suffered their fifth defeat on home ice, losing 6-3 to the New York Islanders. 
It was one of their more languid efforts at Scotiabank Arena, the location for Monday’s game when the Winnipeg Jets descend upon Toronto (2 p.m. ET, ESPN+).
While both teams will enter the Christmas break among the Stanley Cup odds front-runners, the Maple Leafs have been better recently, winning eight of the last 12. 
Winnipeg has won six of its previous nine and has somewhat stabilized after a precipitous dip in form. Toronto is without Anthony Stolarz and Auston Matthews, the latter of whom missed Saturday’s game thanks to aggravating an upper-body injury that recently kept him out of nine games.

Scheifele is enduring a dry patch as far as helpers are concerned. He’s notched two assists in the last five, which came in the same contest against the San Jose Sharks.
Beforehand, he had at least one assist in three of four. 
Earlier in the season, he went seven straight with an assist. While his recent numbers won’t trigger a jaw-dropping moment, Scheifele is a different animal against the Maple Leafs. He seemingly goes through a revolving door prior to playing the Buds and comes out the other side, donning a cape, making it easier to ascend. 
He has at least one assist in nine of the last 12 games against the Maple Leafs, including five of the last six. Scheifele’s averaging 1.25 assists per game in the previous eight vs. Toronto. 
Scheifele also loves playing in Toronto, registering at least one assist in four consecutive at Scotiabank Arena. His recent barren run shouldn’t negatively impact the 31-year-old, as Toronto provides the perfect place to get back on track.

This is more of a high-risk, high-reward situational pick, as Tavares has hit the Over on this prop only twice in the last 13 games.
However, the Maple Leafs’ former captain usually saves his best for the Jets. Against Winnipeg, Tavares fired at least four shots on goal in nine of the last 10 games.  
On Oct. 28, Tavares had seven shots on goal and a hat trick, leading Toronto past Winnipeg 6-4 on the road.
He’s averaged 4.9 shots per game in the previous 10 against Winnipeg and should be in a shoot-first mood with Matthews unable to play. Given his recent Under track record, the plus-money odds make sense, and a winning $10 bet will profit $14.
