With the Carolina Hurricanes not displaying their best away from home ice, the Winnipeg Jets have the advantage in more ways than one as all eyes will be on Connor Hellebuyck and Co. to bring the victory home.
NHL
The Winnipeg Jets have won six straight and welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to the Canada Life Centre for a showdown between a pair of Stanley Cup contenders Tuesday, February 4.
Winnipeg has been next to unbeatable on home ice, while Carolina hasn’t stood out this season on the highway. My top NHL picks and Hurricanes vs. Jets predictions are calling for Winnipeg to bring home the W tonight.

My Jets analysis
The home-road splits work in the favor of the Winnipeg Jets at the Canada Life Centre tonight, with the Carolina Hurricanes heading north with a ho-hum 12-11-3 highway record.
Of course, Winnipeg has also won six consecutive games and is 20-5-3 at home.
The underlying five-on-five and special-teams numbers paint a similar picture for both clubs, too:
Obviously, the Hurricanes are dangerous at 5-on-5 and drive possession on the highway, but it hasn’t translated to outsourcing opponents with Carolina scoring and allowing exactly 75 goals across 26 road games. The Jets also have a plus-45 goal differential across 28 home games, for comparison.
Additionally, Winnipeg has a massive goaltending advantage with betting favorite in the Vezina Trophy odds Connor Hellebuyck turning in a historic season.
Hellebuyck leads the way with a .925 save percentage, 2.04 GAA and 0.65 goals saved above average per 60 minutes among goalies with at least 1,000 minutes played, and those numbers improve to the tune of .931, 1.82 and 0.75 on home ice.
In the opposite end of the rink, goaltending has long been an Achilles’ heel for Carolina, and the Hurricanes rank 30th with a .900 team save percentage at 5-on-5 on the highway and 23rd with an .889 overall mark.
There’s been a move to the Carolina side of this moneyline I don’t agree with. The Hurricanes opened as a -110 favorite at Pinnacle and are trading at -119 as of Tuesday morning. Once again, Carolina is an analytic darling, but as highlighted it just hasn’t resulted in consistent success on the road, and the Canada Life Centre is a tough spot to win for visitors.
Pinnacle hasn’t moved off its opening 5.5 total, and there’s been small action to the Under as of Tuesday morning. As noted, Winnipeg allows the second-fewest goals per game on home ice, so I’m not surprised to see the Under odds shortening at the shop.
