SALT LAKE CITY – The third line has been dynamite recently for the Utah Hockey Club, and the grouping paid off with a Jack McBain goal to grab a 1-0 lead over Anaheim.
Utah HC (28-25-11, 67 points) hosted the Anaheim Ducks (28-29-7, 63 points) at Delta Center on Wednesday, March 12. Utah opens the night fifth in the Western Conference Wild Card chase, three points behind the Calgary Flames for the final playoff spot in the West. Vancouver and St. Louis are between Utah and a playoff spot with 69 points.
Utah is 16-12-4 at home during its inaugural season, while Anaheim is 13-14-5 on the road. The Ducks are 2-0 against Utah this season, including a 5-4 shootout loss at Delta Center on December 22.

Midway through the opening stanza, Ian Cole ripped a shot from the blue line through traffic. McBain was well-positioned in front of the net and deflected the shot past Ville Husso in goal. Cole and Josh Doan earned assists on the play.
It was McBain’s ninth goal and 20th point this year.
Utah controlled the first 20 against a tired Anaheim team. The Ducks were outshot 17-8 against an active Utah HC unit.
