After the game was out of reach, the Bruins and Jets got feisty with three third-period bouts.
With the Jets leading 6-1, Trent Frederic and David Gustafsson squared off near center ice.
Gustafsson never had an NHL fight before Tuesday and this one didn’t last long. Frederic landed a straight right hand and the 24-year-old Swede hit the ice in a hurry.
The Jets didn’t like Frederic, an experienced fighter, tangling with Gustafsson, setting the tone of the next few minutes.
Initially, it looked like Mark Kastelic was simply herding Logan Stanley away from the Frederic-Gustafsson scrap and then moved away. But something Stanley said or did got Kastelic’s attention. He tossed his stick and gloves away and went after him. Stanley landed a couple of early shots, and Kastelic came back throwing right hooks.
While Frederic and Gustafsson each got fight majors, Kastelic and Stanley were given game misconducts for being the second fight in the same stoppage.
The bad blood didn’t end there. The two coaches yelled at each other from the benches and Jets captain Adam Lowry was yelling at the Boston bench.
As soon as the puck was dropped again, Lowry and Zadorov shed their gloves and squared off. But the heavyweight fight between the 6-foot-6 Bruins defenseman and the 6-foot-5 Jets captain was more swinging than striking before Zadorov pulled Lowry down.
The Bruins finished with nine penalties for 37 minutes.
