Detroit Red Wings goalie Ville Husso had to leave Friday’s Grand Rapids Griffins game at 6:09 of the second period for an undisclosed reason.
The Griffins, with games tonight and Sunday, recalled Carter Gylander from the Toledo Walleye. That suggests Husso is injured or ill.  Gylander is 1-0-1 with a 2.96 GAA and .922 save percentage.
Along with the call-up, the Griffins released Malcolm Subban from his tryout contract.
The Griffins were down 1-0 to the Springfield Thunderbirds when Hossa left. Red Wings top goalie prospect Sebastian Cossa replaced Husso and stopped all 21 shots he faced to spark the Griffins to a 2-1 win. This is the Griffins’ first 4-1 start to a season since 2016-17.
Husso had an injury-plagued season in 2023-24, but played all of Detroit’s opener and posted a 1-0 shutout in his last start for the Griffins. There was no sign of injury before Husso left the game. The Griffins haven’t provided any update about the reason for his departure. The Griffins play again tonight at Lehigh Valley and Sunday in Hershey
Husso made 10 saves before departing, but Springfield’s Matthew Peca scored at 6:14 of the first period to halt his team record-breaking shutout streak to 126:13. Husso also posted a shutout for the Griffins last season. No Griffins player has ever had a longer shutout streak to start his Grand Rapids career.
The Red Wings sent Husso to Grand Rapids after he cleared waivers on Oct. 14. The Red Wings have three veteran goalies, needed cap space, and they were sure no NHL team would claim him because of his $4.75 million salary. In his absence, the Detroit tandem of Alex Lyon (2-1, .955 save percentage) and Cam Talbot (2-1, .913 save percentage) have played impressively well.
Detroit’s 2023 first-round pick Nate Danielson scored his first professional goal. It came on the power play to tie the score 1-1. Prospects Alex Doucet and Jakub Rychlovsky registered their first professional points

Red Wings Prospect Has Path Mapped Out to NHL

Center Danielson, and forwards Doucet,(Q/League) Rychlovski (Czech league) and Seger (SHL) all got their 1st points in GR. The latter three all un-drafted signings by the Wing’s scouts. Seger has been up from Toledo for 2 days. The Griffins are looking good so far @4-1 with the best start since their last Calder and 6 GA in 5 games sets a team record.
The Wings have a bright future getting tuned up for the NHL in GR.
Need to move on from Ville Husso. He is too injury prone. I hope he can get healthy and get a fresh start somewhere else. Lyon and Talbot will do fine for Det this year. Good luck Ville where ever u end up.
Buy out Husso and send him home. He`s done here.
Buyout period was over in June.
Red Wings are stuck with Husso until he becomes a UFA on July 1st.
Oh. Husso is injured again. Shocking.
