The force of the Carolina Hurricanes dwindles to a mere breeze when they hit the road. The Hurricanes, who have the third-worst road record (3-8-2) since Nov. 21, will face the Dallas Stars on Tuesday at American Airlines Center (8 p.m. ET, ESPN).
The Stars’ only loss in the last five at home came against the NHL’s in-form team, the Montreal Canadiens. They have the sixth-best home points percentage (.729).
Despite the Hurricanes’ recent tumult, both teams are among the Stanley Cup odds favorites. Our Hurricanes vs. Stars prediction, picks, and player props expect Carolina’s discomfort in enemy barns to continue.
NHL odds via our best NHL betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale.
Tuesday’s game in Dallas offers an uncomfortable proposition for the Hurricanes, who outlasted the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 in overtime last night. Carolina is 4-4-0 in the second game of back-to-backs. That’s a decent return for any team playing on the back end of consecutive nights.
However, all four wins occurred in the Green Zone of Lenovo Center, where they have the NHL’s second-best home record. They are 0-4-0 on their travels in such situations. And they won’t get a reprieve against the Stars, who share the sixth-best home record with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Dallas is also enjoying a gunslinging period in which it has won nine of the last 12 games. Jake Oettinger has won seven of his previous eight starts, allowing more than three goals once.
Carolina’s win against the lowly Blackhawks represented its third victory in the last 13 road encounters. The two preceding triumphs came against a Florida Panthers team struggling on home ice and a nosediving New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
They’ve lost five of the last seven on their travels and are tied for the 12th-worst road record, winning just 10 of 23 contests. A winning $10 bet will profit $7.69.

NHL picks made Tuesday; odds subject to change.
Five of Robertson’s 15 goals have come in the last five games. He has lit the lamp three straight, scoring four goals. It’s easily the hottest Robertson has been all season, and he’ll need to select his best shooting stick again considering the key injuries Dallas is dealing with.
The Hurricanes are to Robertson what blood in the water is to great white sharks. The 25-year-old has three goals in his last four games against Carolina. A winning $10 bet will profit $17.50.
