During the first nine seconds both teams fought three times
Tensions between the US and Canada have been particularly high in recent weeks, due to new taxes imposed by the POTUS Donald Trump. These economic measures have created friction between the two historically commercial allies, impacting industries and raising concerns about the future of their relationship.
The disagreements over tariffs and trade practices have not only affected businesses but have also become a constant discusion between both countries. And now they’ve boiled over onto the ice; the recent NHL 4 Nations game descended into absolute chaos, with multiple fights erupting in the opening seconds. You won’t believe the intensity of these brawls.
With Justin Trudeau in attendance at the TD Garden, the already huge tensions between the US and Canada increased. The familiar sound of the US anthem being booed by the Canadian crowd (yet again) only added fuel to the fire.
Combine that with players displaying an unusually high level of aggression, and the stage was set for chaos. What followed was a wild and intense game that transcended the sport itself, becoming a symbolic battleground reflecting the broader unease between the two nations. The first 9 seconds, three fights.
The US team secured their place in the 4 Nations Face-Off final with a 3-1 victory in Boston on Thursday. USA coach Mike Sullivan commented on the intensity of the game, saying,
“I just think it’s very indicative of what this means to the players. There’s two teams out there that are very competitive, that have a ton of pride for their respective teams and their countries. For me, when you have an investment in trying to win like the way that it occurred – I think that’s an indication of it. What an incredible hockey game.”
The opening fiht of the game was anything but civil, as the gloves came off almost immediately. Canada’s Brandon Hagel and the US’s Matthew Tkachuk engaged in a fistfight at center ice, much to the roaring approval of the crowd. Teammates cleared the area, giving the two combatants a clear stage for their brawl. Referees eventually intervened, sending both players to the penalty box and attempting to restore order to the game.
However, the peace was short-lived. Just as the game was about to restart, another fight broke out. This time, it was Canada’s Sam Bennett and the US’s Brady Tkachuk (Matthew’s brother) who dropped their gloves and exchanged blows, following in the footsteps of their earlier combatants.
Brady Tkachuk joined his brother in the penalty box, and the game was once again restarted. But even this second attempt at a game was short-circuited. A mere nine seconds ticked by before the third and final fight of this chaotic sequence erupted, this time between American J.T. Miller and Canada’s Colton Parayko, bringing the mayhem to a head.
