DETROIT — After an incredible road trip, the streaking Detroit Red Wings look to head into the 4 Nations Face-Off break on a big high as they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.
The Red Wings are on a full head of steam in the race for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The team reeled off three wins in their last homestand and followed that up by sweeping its four-game road trip, beating the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks and Seattle Kraken, tying their season-long win streak of seven games.
Now, Detroit has a chance to win its eighth game in a row for the first time since 2008. Coming into Saturday, the Red Wings are fourth in the Atlantic Division, holding the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Lightning jumped ahead of the Wings in the division and conference standings after beating the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night; Tampa has points in four straight games. They are hanging onto third in the Atlantic, one point ahead of Detroit.
