The Detroit Red Wings return home on Friday night for an Original Six matchup with the New York Rangers, hoping to get back on the winning track.
The Red Wings are back in Hockeytown after a rather positive showing on their recent road trip. In a five-game swing through the Western Conference, including three contests in California, the team managed to come away with a winning record, beating the St. Louis Blues, Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks.
However, there is a little more to be desired following a defeat at the hands of the rebuilding Anaheim Ducks, as well as being shut out by the Vegas Golden Knights this past Tuesday.
Now, Detroit looks to keep its winning ways on home ice intact. Since losing their home opener last month, the Wings have won five games in a row at LCA, one of the big reasons they are near the top of the Atlantic Division standings.
They take on a Rangers team that, since winning the Presidents’ Trophy two years ago, has been all out of sorts. Even with some significant talent, including goaltender Igor Shesterkin, the Blueshirts are playing well below expectations.
