It is shaping up to be an exciting night at historic Ohio Stadium, as two regional rivals get set to take to the ice outdoors.
The Detroit Red Wings are set to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night in the 2025 NHL Stadium Series.
This will be the first-ever outdoor game in the history of the Blue Jackets. With the fact that the Florida Panthers will be hosting next year’s Winter Classic, the Utah Hockey Club will be the only franchise in the NHL yet to play an outdoor game.
The Red Wings have previously played in four outdoor games in their history. Starting with the 2009 Winter Classic, Detroit has played in the 2014 Winter Classic, the 2016 Stadium Series and 2017 Centennial Classic. Detroit is 2-2 in outdoor games.
These two teams met on Thursday night in Detroit. Unfortunately for Wings' fans, the Blue Jackets head into the marquee event with momentum, as they came away with a 5-2 victory. Saturday will be the final meeting this season between the two teams, with each team picking up a win over the other so far.
The Red Wings remain fourth in the Atlantic Division, holding the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Blue Jackets sit in the second WC position, also holding fourth place in the Metropolitan Division.
