EDMONTON — After a couple of solid wins against good teams, the Detroit Red Wings begin a trip through western Canada, beginning with a matchup against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night.
After a tough road trip, the Red Wings regained some of that confidence they were missing with an impressive performance on home ice. After losing four of five games away from Little Caesars Arena, Detroit reeled off three wins in Hockeytown. Outlasting the Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning before beating up the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night.
Lucas Raymond and Marco Kasper combined for seven points against the Kings, helping the team move to three games above .500 for the first time this season. Detroit is still seventh in the Atlantic Division, but are only two points back of a Wild Card spot.
They now get to visit the defending Western Conference Champions. The Oilers might have had a rough start to the 2024-25 season, but thanks to the likes of captain Connor McDavid and Hart Trophy candidate Leon Draisaitl, Edmonton has sprinted up the standings, nabbing first place in the Pacific Division thanks to a three-game win streak.
The Oilers sit with the Vegas Golden Knights for first in the Pacific heading into Thursday.
Edmonton beat Detroit in overtime in the first of two meetings this season back in October.
