DETROIT — The stumbling Detroit Red Wings hope to find some Hockeytown magic to put an end to their current losing streak, as the Buffalo Sabres come to town on Saturday.
The Red Wings are playing far from the team that won three straight games, and restored fans’ hopes of a playoff push. Since that good little stretch, the team has dropped its last three games, with their offense going to the wayside. Detroit continues to be outshot by its opponents, including losing the battle to the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday night, 29-21, on their way to a 6-2 loss.
If the Wings want to turn things around, they need to play inspired. After the win streak, the team has seemingly gone through the motions. Even in their overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday did Detroit allow Edmonton’s top guns do what they want when they rallying back late.
Now, they take on a Sabres team that is in a similar boat–expected to improve after a number of lackluster seasons with a mix of young talent and veteran experience. However, they have shown little signs of being a playoff contender, despite winning three in a row last month.
Buffalo took the first game of the four-game season series against Detroit. The Sabres’ 5-3 win last Saturday kickstarted the three-game spell for the Red Wings.
