To cap off an exciting night of NHL action, two western teams hoping to stay in the playoff race meet up on Wednesday night when the Anaheim Ducks pay a visit to the Utah Hockey Club.
When the season began, few could have expected both Utah and the Ducks to be still in contention for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs past the NHL Trade Deadline. Yet, here we are.
UHC has been scratching and clawing for most of the season. Thanks to some timely scoring and excellent goaltending from Karel Vejmelka, the team formerly known as the Arizona Coyotes is right in the thick of things. Following a tough shootout loss at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday, the Utah has lost three of its past four games, sitting sixth in the Central Division, three points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
As are the Ducks are, though to a lesser extent. With a young and talented core, the team has made strides after years of being bottom-dwellers in the league. Coming off a loss to the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night, Anaheim is sixth in the Pacific Division, seven points out of a Wild Card spot.
