The Detroit Red Wings have a busy weekend in their return to play after the 4 Nations Face-Off break, finishing up with a Sunday afternoon clash against the Anaheim Ducks.
The Red Wings will be coming off a Saturday afternoon clash with the Minnesota Wild, their first game out of the break, which ended in an overtime loss. Detroit had won seven straight games nearing the pause before losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning in their last game. Yet, they have managed to put them back into playoff contention. They still have a lot of work to do in order to put an end to their almost eight-year playoff drought.
Detroit is fourth in the Atlantic Division, holding the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
They welcome a Ducks team to Hockeytown that is still trying to figure things out. While they have shown some signs of improvement with young stars like Mason McTavish and Cutter Gauthier, Anaheim is not quite capable of challenging for a Wild Card spot.
The Ducks are sixth in the Pacific Division, seven points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
