Following a much-needed victory, the Detroit Red Wings are back home on Sunday to go up against a division rival in a pivotal matchup, as they welcome the Florida Panthers to Little Caesars Arena.
The Red Wings are starting to build some momentum at the right time of the season. Following a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins last weekend, Detroit suffered a loss to the St. Louis Blues, though they salvaged a point in an overtime defeat. Then, this past Friday, up against the playoff-bound Carolina Hurricanes, goals from Alex DeBrincat, Patrick Kane and Marco Kasper powered the Wings to a big 5-3 victory.
Despite the recent positive results, the Red Wings are still staring down a steep hill to get to the postseason, sitting six points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Panthers are not in the same dire straits as Detroit. While they have already clinched a playoff spot, Florida is battling for home-ice advantage, sitting two points behind the Tampa Bay Lightning for second in the AtlanticD
