ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Riley Thompson, Connor Marritt and Aiden Westin each scored for Alaska Anchorage in a 3-1 win over Long Island Sunday.
"Great bounce back win," said head coach Matt Shasby. "I was really impressed with Orosz first home start. Tonight was a team effort."
Riley Thompson opened the scoring for the Seawolves with his fourth goal of the season in the final minute of the first period. Aiden Westin and Connor Merritt each assisted on the goal.
Marritt collected his second point of the night with a break-away short-handed goal at 13:01 of the second period. Ben Almquist notched his team-leading 13th assist of the season on the play.
The short-handed goal was the first by a Seawolf since Trey deGraaf scored short-handed at Lake Superior State on Jan. 24, 2020.
Aiden Westin scored at 13:10 of the third period with an assist from Riley Thompson. Westin and Thompson each finished with two points.
Greg Orosz was 13 seconds away from his first career shutout, before Chris Pappas scored for the Sharks, who had the extra attacker. Orosz finished with 22 saves in his second career win.
The two teams finished a combined 0-for-9 on the powerplay.
LIU outshot UAA 23-18.
Alaska Anchorage will play at Lindenwood Feb. 16-17.
