The Grand Rapids Griffins’ losing streak reached three games with a 5-2 loss against the Chicago Wolves on Friday at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids.
Eduards Tralmaks and Amadeus Lombardi scored goals, Gabriel Seger tied a career-high with his seventh assist and Sebastian Cossa allowed five goals on 18 shots and was replaced in the third period by Michal Postava.
Despite three straight losses, the Griffins’ 32-6-2-1 record remains the best in the league heading into Saturday’s game against the Wolves at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill. Game time is 8 p.m.
Captain T.J. Hughes led No. 1-ranked Michigan to a 6-4 victory over Ohio State on Friday at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Will Horcoff scored a goal to reach the 20-goal milestone in just his 25th game of the season, Michael Hage added three assists and Stephen Peck stopped 30-of-34 shots.
Hughes moved into a tie for 30th place on the program’s all-time scoring list with 1948 national champion, Wally Gacek. Hughes has 159 points with 60 goals and 99 assists in 141 games.
The two-game series will wrap up Saturday at 5 p.m.
No. 2 Michigan State beat No. 5 Penn State, 6-3, on Friday at Pegula Ice Arena in University Park, Pa.
Freshman forward Anthony Romani scored three goals and added an assist for the Spartans’ first hat trick since Isaac Howard’s four-point performance (3 goals, 1 assist) against Penn State last year.
“I thought we executed at a high level,” Michigan State head coach Adam Nightingale said. “I thought our penalty kill did a really good job on that five-minute major when you’ve got that much talent on the ice for Penn State. Trey (Augustine) was really good and made some big time saves for us.”
Michigan State improved to 20-5-0 overall and 11-4 in Big Ten action while Penn State falls to 18-7-0 (10-5 B1G).
Saturday’s game gets underway outdoors at Beaver Stadium at 1 p.m.
Liam Valente scored two goals in Western Michigan’s 10th consecutive victory on Friday.
The Broncos beat Nebraska at Omaha, 5-2, at Lawson Arena in Kalamazoo to improve to 19-6-0.
Zack Sharp, Jamison Sluys and William Whitelaw also scored and Hampton Slukynsky stopped 28 shots.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 6 p.m.
