The fight against pediatric cancer has been one of the Blue Jackets Foundation’s primary areas of focus since the team’s inception in 2000. Hats For Heroes and additional fundraising programs have helped raise more than $4 million to fund a variety of support programs for pediatric cancer patients and their families, including therapy through distraction, critical research projects, and assistance in providing palliative care for youth.
Funds raised during Hockey Fights Cancer and throughout the year benefit the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation’s pediatric cancer pillar. Each year thousands of patients and their families receive support. To learn more, please check out our community report.
In coordination with the Blue Jackets Hockey Fights Cancer initiative, CBJ players visit Nationwide Children’s Hospital to help brighten the spirits of children in treatment.
The Hats for Heroes program, featuring limited edition designs for each season, is an opportunity for the 5th Line to assist in the team’s fight against cancer. The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9’s enduring partnership gives a boost to the program’s success. Proceeds from the hat sales contribute significantly to the Foundation’s efforts to fund a variety of support programs for pediatric cancer patients and their families in central Ohio.
Fans can download an “I fight for…” battle card courtesy of OhioHealth. The card features a space where fans may write their personal connection to the fight against cancer. Fans are encouraged to write a name in recognition of cancer survivors and all those who have been touched in some way by the disease.

The CBJ Foundation hosts a special photoshoot with Flashes of Hope which takes individual photos of each hero and their family and then combines them with a CBJ player to help capture those smiles and forever preserve the images of courage, beauty, and dignity that each child has.
