The Utah Hockey Club (21-20-7) have been up-and-down as of late, but with the Wild Card race in the Western Conference wide open, they’ve got a chance to do something special in year one if they can find their consistency.

On Sunday they battle the Ottawa Senators (25-20-4), who have been improving all season long as they look to finally start fulfilling their immense potential, as they continue to hold a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs out East. Read on for our Utah Hockey Club vs. Ottawa Senators prediction.

Nobody does it better when it comes to NHL Picks!

Can Utah HC continue an impressive start away from home?

The Utah Hockey Club entered the 2024/25 with plenty of hype, and while they’ve been inconsistent overall, a 13-9-3 record away from home has given them a solid platform to go on with and make a run at the Stanley Cup Playoffs. With 2.88 goals scored per game, Utah continue to give themselves chances to win, and as they allow a 2.96 GAA, ranking them 15th in the NHL, if they can start scoring more consistently, this isn’t a team to be taken lightly in the Western Conference.

Unsurprisingly, it’s their two young stars leading the way offensively in Clayton Keller (53 points) and Logan Cooley (42), and if they can get more help from the depth, this is a lineup with plenty of potential for the future. Last time out for Utah was a tough loss to the Winnipeg Jets, with two assists to Keller not enough to keep this one close as the team allowed a hat-trick to rising star Cole Perfetti with the Jets coming away winners 5-2.

Can the Senators get back into a Stanley Cup Playoffs spot?

The Ottawa Senators have been improving mightily over the last few years, and with a 13-7-2 record on home ice this season, they find themselves just one point out of the Wild Card race in the Eastern Conference. With just 2.73 goals scored per game, the Senators success comes on the back of their goaltending, which ranks eighth in the NHL with a 2.77 GAA, and as their top stars continue to produce, this is a team that has as good a shot as anyone in the Wild Card race.

Leading the way for this team in 2024/25 has been young superstar Tim Stutzle with 46 points in 49 games played, and with the likes of Drake Batherson and Brady Tkachuk also providing offensive help, this team could be a dark horse threat this season. Last time out for Ottawa was a tight win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, with goals to Stutzle and Shane Pinto providing all the offense they’d need as Anton Forsberg stopped 28 of the 29 shots he saw to come away winners 2-1.
Insiders Status:

These two teams have met just one time since the Utah Hockey Club entered the NHL, and with the Senators picking up the dominant 4-0 victory in that matchup, they come into this intriguing clash as a very tight favorite.
That combined with their 13-7-2 record on home ice this season make the Senators the best bet in this one, as they’re desperate to stay in the Wild Card race and have the massive advantage in net, so look for them to pick up a tight win in the second of a back-to-back.
Insiders Status:

The matchup between the two this season saw just four total goals scored, and after both teams scored just twice in their last game, combined with both ranking in the bottom half of the league in goals scored, this one shouldn’t be much different.
For Utah, the under sits at 5-4-1 in their last 10 overall games, with the team scoring three or less goals in seven of those, and for the Senators, the under comes in at 9-1 in their past 10, with just 21 goals allowed during that time.
Keep it simple, take the under.
