The Kings come into this game as a -165 favorite on home ice with the total sitting at 5.5 goals.

Utah Hockey Club Looks to Build on Good Streak Before the Break

Before the 4-Nations Face Off break the Utah Hockey Club had won three of four games and look to build on that solid streak. In their last game they were on the road in a 5-4 shootout win over the Washington Capitals and the three wins in their last four games all came by one goal. Utah has some work to do but they have been pretty impressive in their inaugural season and they are at 24-23-9 and there are six teams in the Western Conference that have fewer points. In their only matchup with the Kings this season they lost 3-2 in La La Land.

On the season the Hockey Club rank 22nd in the league averaging 2.80 goals per game and rank a decent tied for 16th in goals against (3.00). Clayton Keller is tied for the team lead with 20 goals and leads them with 60 points and in the last six games before the break had two goals and four assists. Dylan Guenther also has 20 goals and had four of them in the four games before the break. Top netminder Karel Vejmelka (13-15-4 2.57 GAA) is listed as day-to-day and if he is not in between the pipes to face the Kings Connor Ingram (9-7-4 3.23 GAA) may get the nod but is also listed as day-to-day. On the season Utah has been much better on the road (15-11-3) than at home (9-12-6).

Kings Look to Get Back to Scoring

After a four-game skid the Kings won three in a row totaling 15 goals before their attack stalled in the last game before the break in a 2-1 home shootout loss to the Anaheim Ducks. L.A. has the seventh most points in the Western Conference and while they are 16 points out of first place, they are only seven points out of second place. The Kings rank in the middle of the pack in terms of goals scored per game (2.83) but rank fifth in the NHL only giving up an average of 2.53 goals per game.

Adrian Kempe scored a goal for Sweden in the 4-Nations Face Off, leads the Kings with 25 goals and 26 points, and only has one goal and one assist over the last eight games. Veteran Anze Kopitar ranks second on the club in points with 45 (13 goals 32 assists) and only has one goal and one assist over the last nine games. Kevin Fiala ranks second with 21 goals and had five in four games before the break. Either Darcy Kuemper (16-6-6 2.19 GAA), who ranks third in the NHL in GAA and is listed as day-to-day, or David Rittich (12-11-1 2.59 GAA) will get the call to face the Hockey Club. On the season the Kings are 17-3-2 on home ice.
Insiders Status:

Utah had won three of four games before the 4-Nations Face Off break while the Kings lost their last game after winning three in a row. However, the Kings beat the Hockey club at home in their lone matchup of the season. The Kings are led by a defense that ranks fifth in the league in goals against per game and only gave up two goals in the win over Utah. They will play well on the defensive ice in this game but so will Utah, who has played pretty good D on the season. In terms of the Utah Hockey Club vs. L.A. Kings prediction the Kings have seemed to be a different team at home where they have been much better than on the road and on home ice they are the pick to get the W.
Take the Kings at -165.
Insiders Status:

When these teams met earlier in the season in L.A. the total went Under and that is the pick I am leaning towards in this game. Both teams are rested after the break but each team has goalies that are banged up. Still, the Kings only scored one goal in their last game and while Utah scored five, they only netted twice in the loss to the Kings this season. Both of the rested teams will be physical and not allow much open space in what will be a lower-scoring game, which means the Under is the way to go.
Take the Under 5.5 goals.
