Utah Cranking Out Goals

The Utah Hockey Club are heading to Winnipeg after another win on Thursday against the Minnesota Wild with a final score of 4-0. This would be the third win in a row for the Hockey Club and their second shut out of the season. Utah is currently on a four-game road trip with a record of 1-0-0.

Utah has vastly improved their offense as of late. On the season the Hockey Club ranked 22nd overall in scoring and averaged 2.89 goals per game. In their last five games the Hockey Club has averaged 3.80 goals per game. Their increase in offense has also been met with their defense performing better as well. On the season Utah is allowing an average of 28.4 shots on goal but in their last five games we have seen Utah allow an average of only 25.4 shots per game. This has helped their goaltending which has already performed well this season with their save percentage sitting at .897.

Starting in net for the Hockey Club will likely be Connor Ingram as we saw Karel Vejmelka in net yesterday against the Wild. Connor Ingram has a record of 8-5-3 in 16 games with a goals against average of 3.29 and a save percentage of .882 this season. Ingram was 23-21-3 in 50 games with a goals against average of 2.91 and a save percentage of .907 in 2023-24.

Winnipeg Lacking Offense

The Winnipeg Jets are returning home after a win on Wednesday against the Colorado Avalanche with final score of 3-2. This is the fourth win for the Jets in their last six games. Winnipeg finished a two-game road trip with a record of 1-1-0 and now returns home for a two-game homestand.

The Jets have been known for their offense this season leading the league in scoring, averaging 3.47 goals per game. In their last four games however, the Jets have averaged only two goals per game. This lack of goal scoring is from their drop in shooting percentage. On the season the Jets are third overall in shooting percentage at 12.2% but in their last four games we have seen a sharp decline down to 6.4%. The lack of accuracy is concerning for one of the top teams in the league, especially a team that prides itself in offense.

Starting in net will likely be Connor Hellebuyck for the Jets on Friday. Connor Hellebuyck has a record of 29-7-2 in 38 games with a goals against average of 2.02 and a save percentage of .927 this season. Hellebuyck was 37-19-4 in 60 games with a goals against average of 2.39 and a save percentage of .921 in 2023-24 where he won his second Vezina Trophy.

Insiders Status:

The Jets are 1-0 against Utah at home with the one game ending in a final score of 3-0. Winnipeg had a disappointing loss Monday against Utah and will likely want to get revenge at home. Utah is also on a back to back game and will likely struggle against Connor Hellebuyck much like they did against him on the road earlier this season. The Jets are looking to generate more offense and they may get that opportunity against a tired defense.
I am siding with Winnipeg at -1.5.
Insiders Status:

The Winnipeg Jets are averaging 3.45 goals on the season and 3.59 at home. While they are generating a lot of goals at home they are also allowing a lot of goals in their last three games at 3.08 per game. When we take both teams’ averages on offense and defense in their last three games, on the season, and home/away, we get a projected total of 5.77. This game looks like a 4-2 total which would take us over the line.
I am taking the over at 5.5.
