Utah Finding Wins With Defense
The Utah Hockey Club are heading to Chicago after their game on Thursday versus Detroit. Prior to their game versus Detroit the Hockey Club has won three games in their last four. Utah is currently on a two-game road trip before returning back home for a two-game home stand on Monday.
Utah has won many of their games this season thanks to their defending as their offense has not been able to put up consistent goals. Utah ranks 23rd in goal scoring averaging 2.80 goals per game. The Hockey Club has made up for this on defense as they rank 13th in goals allowed, allowing an average of 2.93 goals per game. On the season the Hockey Club is 21st in shots allowed, allowing an average of 27.92 shots per game. This has improved greatly in their last five games with the Utah Hockey Club allowing an average of only 21.8 shots per game.
Connor Ingram will likely be starting in net on Friday as we will see Karel Vejmelka starting on Thursday. Connor Ingram is 9-8-4 in 22 games with a goals against average of 3.27 and a save percentage of .882 this season. Ingram had a record of 23-21-3 in 50 games with a goals against average of 2.91 and a save percentage of .907 in 2023-24.
Chicago Generating Goals
The Chicago Blackhawks are coming off a loss on Wednesday versus Ottawa with a final score of 4-3 in overtime. This is the first loss for the Blackhawks in their last three games. Chicago is currently on a three-game homestand with a record sitting at 1-0-1.
Chicago is thriving on offense as of late as they average 4.75 goals per game in their last four games. This has been largely due to their shooting percentage as well as their powerplay. Chicago on the season ranks pretty high in powerplay percentage for a team at the bottom of the league. The Blackhawks are sixth overall in powerplay percentage with a percentage at 26.4%. However in their last four games we have seen a huge spike in their powerplay percentage up to 42.9%. This in combination with a lethal 22.4% shooting percentage and you have a team that can generate goals easily if their opponents’ goaltending is not ready.
Spencer Knight will be getting the start in net for the Blackhawks. Spencer Knight has a record of 13-8-1 in 24 games with a goals against average of 2.34 and a save percentage of .912 this season. Knight has a 1-0-0 record in 1 game with a goals against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .976 for the Blackhawks this season.
Insiders Status:
Connor Ingram is 2-3-1 in 6 games with a goals against average of 3.00 and a save percentage of .911 against the Blackhawks in his career. The Chicago Blackhawks have a 7-1-2 record in their last 10 games against the Arizona Coyotes at home prior to them moving to Utah. The Utah Hockey Club have a penalty-kill percentage of 71.4 in their last 10 games which is going to be an issue going up against Chicago who has thrived on the powerplay this season and especially as of late. Chicago seems to be motivated after the acquisition on goaltender Spencer Knight from the Panthers and I believe they will grab a win at home against the Hockey Club.
I am taking Chicago on the money line.
Insiders Status:
The Chicago Blackhawks have an over/under record of 4-1 in their last 5 games. We can expect Chicago to score well as they have in their previous games. The Blackhawks still have one of the worst defenses in the league when it comes to shots allowed on net. While Spencer Knight has looked great in his first game since becoming a Blackhawk, he should allow enough goals to take us over the total in combination with the Blackhawks bountiful amount of goals.
I am siding with the over at 6.5.
