Though it looked like Austria was going to have a shot to upset the Canadian giants, taking a 1-0 lead after the first period, Canada responded in dominant fashion, taking control of the game and coming back to win 4-1. Vinzenz Rohrer showed off his speed on Austria’s lone goal, capitalizing on one of his team’s few opportunities.

After the first intermission, Canada responded, led by Nathan MacKinnon, who netted two second-period goals, despite his team’s offense slowing down. Canada would return to its offensive form in the third period, adding two more goals from Travis Konecny and Will Cuylle, sealing the win with control. Canadian and NHL legend got in on the fun, adding a goal of his own adding to the lead and bringing the final score to 5-1.
Austrian goaltender Florian Vorauer did all he could to keep Austria in the game, saving 47 shots, but Canada was just too powerful. Canada stays undefeated in the tournament and moves to their next match game against Slovakia.
For a more in-depth recap of the game, read below:
On the Austrian side, it was no other than Vorauer, who faced 52 Canadian shots, giving it his all to keep Austria in the game. For the Canadians, MacKinnon earned the honor with two goals and one assist.
The legend gets in on the scoring fun, sneaking a shot past Vorauer for his second goal of the tournament, and Canada’s fifth of the day. He was assisted by Bo Horvat and MacKinnon and the score is now 5-1.
Will Cuylle and Konecny trade places, as Konecny assists on Cuylle’s goal for Canada’s fourth of the day. Leading 4-1 Canada is skating away from Austria in this one and has held Austria to just two shots in the third period.
Travis Konecny gets in on the scoring, netting his third goal of the tournament. Canada has already taken nine shots on goal in the third period, not even 10 minutes in. Canada is in full control of this game and leads 3-1. Will Cuylle and Noah Dobson nabbed assists on the goal.

Dominic Zwerner gets booked for tripping and Canada has its second power play of the day. Canada was one-for-one on power plays but didn’t capitalize on the second.
After being held scoreless in the first, Canada scores two goals thanks to Nathan MacKinnon to push in front of Austria, but shot the puck on goal just 10 times in the period, 13 less than they did in the first. Going into the third period, Canada has a 2-1 lead.
As Canada poured on the shots, it was only a matter of time before they scored again. MacKinnon ripped a slap shot past Vorauer to score his second goal of the day and put Canada on top 2-1. The shot was assisted by Montour and Danault.

Midway through the second, Austria has limited the Canadian offense and is matching them on shots, 4-4. Even with all of Canada’s star-power, this game is anyone’s to take, tied at 1-1.
Barrett Hayton gets called for delay of game and Austria has another power play, but Canada successfully killed the power play once again.
Nathan MacKinnon capitalizes on the power play and rips a shot past Vorauer to tie this game at 1-1. He was assisted by Brandon Montour and Bo Horvat.

Lukas Haudum gets called for hooking and Canada has its first power play of the game.
Canada dominated offensively, taking a whopping 23 shots on goal – the most in a period of the tournament so far, but couldn’t will any into the back of Vorauer’s net. Austria took just four shots on goal, but made them count as they capitalized on a Canadian offensive mishap and sent Rohrer flying, who snuck a shot past Fleury. Can Austria hold on or extend their lead to earn their first point in the tournament?
Canada took 23 shots on goal in the first period alone, and Vorauer smothered or deflected everything sent his way.
Austria finds the back of the net first on a goal from Vinzenz Rohrer, assisted by Brian Lebler and Benjamin Baumgatner, who successfully forced a turnover and Rohrer snuck his shot past Fleury.
