Ice hockey goalie is among the most specialized positions in sports. Rice, Essex, Hartford, Spaulding and Kingdom Blades are some of the Vermont girls hockey teams who only have one goalie on their team rosters, meaning if that person is missing teams have limited options.
That scenario hit Rice’s girls hockey team this week with its goalie having a prior commitment to another sport during winter break. The Green Knights were forced to forfeit their game against Burr and Burton on Wednesday, Feb. 25, and might have to do the same for the regular-season finale vs. Chittenden Charge on Saturday, Feb. 28.
