After a dominant quarterfinal victory, top-seeded Grand Rapids boys’ hockey went into its matchup with fourth-seeded Forest Lake looking for revenge. Following a scoreless first period, the Thunderhawks turned it on to beat the Rangers 5-0.
The opening frame featured strong showings from both goalies, Zachary Schnabel and Luke Sherlock, which kept either side from getting on the board. Then, four minutes into the second, Jameson Duell raced toward the cage and fired, where his shot was stopped but Dylan Clayton was there to knock it in on the rebound.
Six minutes later, Alexander Salisbury tried it from just in front of the blue line and the puck flew past everyone into the back of the net. Shortly after, Salisbury rifled it from deep again where it was deflected before Owen Kastendick redirected it in to make 3-0.
Rapids added two more tallies in the third, one from Nathan Garski and another from Ander Rajala, to extend the lead. Thanks to 25 saves by Luke Sherlock, the T-Hawks secured their sixth straight win to move one victory away from the state tournament.
Now, Grand Rapids is 14-12-1 and faces the winner of Rock Ridge/Duluth East at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
