A heavyweight bout between the Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars is always worth watching, even if it’s not being played in Sin City.
On Friday, the Stanley Cup odds contenders square off at American Airlines Center (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN). The Stars have recently endured a mediocre patch on home ice, winning six of the last 12. One thing that hasn’t been impacted is their defense, which has allowed the third-fewest goals against per game (2.23) since Dec. 28.
Our Golden Knights vs. Stars prediction and picks expect that stingy defense to take center stage while recommending a Noah Hanifin player prop.
NHL odds via our best NHL betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale.
It’s challenging to get a good read on this one, as both teams have endured inconsistent runs. The Stars are 2-4-0 after winning seven in a row, and the Golden Knights have lost six of the last eight on the back of being the NHL’s best team for almost two months.
So, I’m turning to something more consistent than a rain-free day in Vegas: Dallas’ airtight defense.
Pete DeBoer’s squad allows the fourth-fewest goals against per game (2.49) and the third-fewest on home ice (2.20). Jake Oettinger is also superb at American Airlines Center, with the third-best save percentage (.919) and third-best goals-against average (2.07) among those with at least 20 home starts.
Dallas’ No. 1 has recently been as impenetrable as Fort Knox, allowing three or fewer in eight of his last nine starts. He has the third-best save percentage (.932) and the second-best goals-against average (1.76) since Dec. 28 among goalies with at least nine starts.
In addition, the Stars’ last four home games featured five or fewer goals. A winning $10 bet will profit $10.50.

Hanifin has hit the Over on this prop in nine of the last 10 games and six of eight in hostile atmospheres. He has 27 shots in the previous 10 contests against the Dallas Stars, and I like his odds of a repeat performance.
The Golden Knights fire the third-most shots per game on the road (30.7). Dallas is an excellent shot-suppression team on home ice, so I’m going with a low-end total from a reliable producer. A winning $10 bet will profit $7.46.
