The complexion of Friday’s game (7 p.m. ET, NHL Network) between the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, N.C., has more layers than a hairdresser’s finest end product.
Thanks to their third-best home points percentage (.761), the Hurricanes are the clear favorites. However, they have the ninth-worst record (10-11-2) since Nov. 28. Despite losing in Nashville on Tuesday, the Golden Knights are the league’s best road team in the last two months, winning 10 of 14.
Our Golden Knights vs. Hurricanes prediction, picks, and player props analyze the visitor’s chances of lighting the lamp at least three times.
NHL odds via our best NHL betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale.
The Golden Knights at +125 offer exquisite value, and I’m tempted to lock them in on the moneyline.
The fact that Carolina is one of the league’s elite home teams makes me stop and ponder. Also, the Golden Knights have lost three of their last four and look like they’re coming down from a euphoric high of winning nine of the previous 10.
Speaking of stopping, that’s a word Hurricanes goaltenders Pyotr Kochetkov and Dustin Tokarski need to put into practice more often. In five starts since Dec. 22, Tokarski has a .885 save percentage and has allowed three or more goals in three of his last five starts.
Kochetkov is the more likely starter, and he’s conceded at least three in six of the last seven and four straight. He has a .894 save percentage in his last seven starts.
The Golden Knights have recently deserved their tag of Stanley Cup odds front-runners, especially in enemy rinks. Their offense has scored at least three goals in seven straight. During that stint, Vegas has averaged 3.7 goals per game.
Since taking over as the league’s pre-eminent road outfit in mid-November, the Golden Knights have scored 3.36 goals per game, the third-most. If they light the lamp three times, you’ll earn $7.41 on a $10 bet.
Best odds: -135 via Betway | Implied probability: 57.45%

NHL picks made Friday; odds subject to change.
One of the best shot-suppressing home outfits will try to keep one of the most prolific shooting road teams at bay. The Hurricanes are tied with the Colorado Avalanche for allowing the fourth-fewest shots at home (24.3), while only two teams shoot more on the road than the Golden Knights, who average 30.4.
Pietrangelo gets a ton of ice time and has hit the Over on this prop in five of the last six games and three straight.
He’s even more productive in hostile barns, where he’s fired at least two shots on target in 12 of the last 14 tilts. I’ll take my chances on him doing the same against Rod Brind’Amour’s squad.
Best odds: -120 via Betway | Implied probability: 54.55%
