This wasn’t a state championship game and overtime wasn’t required, but Hill-Murray and Edina delivered another thriller in the Minnesota State High School League’s 2026 Girls Hockey State Tournament on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, at Grand Casino Arena in downtown St. Paul.
The end result was a one-goal Hill-Murray victory for the third straight meeting in this series and a third consecutive trip to the title game for the Pioneers.
Junior forward Emily Pohl tapped in a rebound for a go-ahead, power-play goal with 3:13 remaining. Jaycee Chatleain took the initial shot that was saved by Edina’s Soren Peacock. Olivia Braunschausen was also credited with an assist on the winner.

The fourth-seeded Hornets (21-5-3) had tied it eight minutes earlier when Lorelai Nelson scooped up a loose puck and maneuvered in front of the net for a shot.
No. 1 Hill-Murray (25-3-1) will go after its fifth state title when it faces the winner of No. 2 Centennial/Spring Lake Park and No. 3 Holy Family Catholic at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Pioneers defeated Edina 5-4 in double overtime in last year’s title game after a 2-0 Hornets victory in the same matchup in 2024. Hill-Murray won this season’s previous meeting between the two, 4-3 on Nov. 25.
Edina tied the game twice on Friday, but ran out of time for a third answer.
Hill-Murray’s Hannah Rychley opened the scoring just over nine minutes into the game with assists from Gwynn Skoogman and Pohl. Hazel Schenkelberg responded for the Hornets a little more than four minutes later with assists from Mae Fitzgerald and Brenna Prellwitz.
Braunschausen put the Pioneers back in front early in the second period, only for Nelson to tie it and set up the dramatic finish.
Taylor Miller and Sophie Olson also recorded assists for the Pioneers. Piper Tam made 20 saves.
Peacock had 25 saves for the Hornets. Audrey Davis pitched in an assist.
Edina will play in the third-place game at noon Saturday.
