STOCKHOLM, Sweden – The U.S. Men’s National Team faces Sweden here today in the semifinals of the 2025 IIHF Men’s World Championship with opening faceoff set for 2:20 p.m. local/8:20 a.m. ET at Avicii Arena.

Team USA has earned its way to the semifinals of the men’s worlds for the fourth time in the last five years. The U.S. has won seven of its eight games in the tournament and is looking to get to the gold-medal game for the first time since 1934.
The U.S. advanced to today’s semis on the strength of a 5-2 win over Finland in the quarterfinals on Thursday (May 22). Conor Garland scored twice on the power play to aid the U.S. cause, while Jeremy Swayman made 20 saves to improve 5-0 in the tournament.
Sweden advanced with a 5-2 victory over Czechia in the quarterfinals. The hosts have won seven of their eight games in the world championship, with their lone loss coming to Canada, 5-3, in the final day of preliminary round games on Tuesday (May 20).
The U.S. and Sweden have met 58 previous times in the world championship with the Swedes owning a 38-1-2-11-5 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) advantage in the series. The squads have faced each other twice in the semifinals, with Sweden gaining victories both in 2018 (6-0) and 2004 (3-2). The U.S. is 2-12 all-time in semifinal games of the world championship with its two victories coming in 1934 and 1933.
Switzerland and Denmark play in the late semifinal game today (6:20 p.m. local/12:20 p.m. ET). The two semifinal winners meet for the gold medal tomorrow at 8:20 p.m. local/2:20 p.m. ET, while the losers play for the bronze medal at 3:20 p.m. local/9:20 a.m. ET. Both games air live on NHL Network.
