A few former NHLers and some local politicians are probably a bit sore today.
The second annual charity hockey game for Camp Horizon turned out perfectly on Saturday.
It was the warmest day of the week which many players and fans appreciated as it was on the outdoor Scott Seaman’s Sports Rink in Diamond Valley.
Last year the game was played in Bragg Creek but this time it was a bit closer to home.
Foothills MP John Barlow organized the event again this year leaning on his political friends and former NHLers.
Former Calgary Flames Colin Patterson and Paul Kruse were on hand as was four-time Stanley Cup champion, and Alberta native Duane Sutter.
Highwood MLA RJ Sigurdson also laced up as did Diamond Valley town councillor Brendan Kelly acting as the afternoon’s referee.
The game got underway just after 3:30 p.m. with Country singer and the voice of the national anthems at Calgary Flames home games, George Canyon signing ‘Oh Canada’.
A few dozen people braved the weather and were treated to some laughs, some pretty good plays and not-bad goaltending coming from John Barlow who donned the pads again this year.
Thanks to all the local sponsors too like Justin Swinton, GM of Okotoks Ford.
Camp Horizon is located just west of Calgary and is designed for kids with disabilities.
The total amount raised isn’t expected until Wednesday of this week. They had a goal of $50,000.
